Key Takeaway
Staking means committing crypto to a proof-of-stake network to earn rewards in that same coin. Many people treat it like a savings account. It is not one.

What Is Staking, in Plain Terms?
Staking is how proof-of-stake blockchains like Solana and Ethereum stay secure. Validators lock coins to confirm transactions and earn new coins and fees in return. When you stake, you share in those rewards.
Unlike on-chain staking, WEEX Staking requires no complex blockchain operations, external wallets, or private key management. It is designed for long-term holders seeking a simple, secure, and steady asset growth solution, offering a more efficient alternative to frequent crypto trading
Rewards are paid in the coin you stake. They are quoted as an estimated APR, which is a yearly rate.
Myth 1: Staking Works Like a Savings Account
Staking rewards are paid in crypto, not in your local currency. Nothing protects the value of your principal. If the coin's price falls, your position can lose value even while rewards grow.
Example: you stake 10 SOL at 8% APR for a year.
- You earn 0.8 SOL and hold 10.8 SOL.
- If SOL falls 10% in that year, your 10.8 SOL is worth about 2.8% less than your starting 10 SOL.
Staking adds coins. It does not protect against price drops.

Myth 2: Staked Coins Are Always Locked
Whether your coins are locked depends on the product. WEEX Staking offers both flexible and fixed-term products. The difference matters if you may need your coins soon.
- Flexible WEEX Staking: redeem anytime and keep all rewards earned.
- Fixed-term WEEX Staking: coins are committed until maturity.
- Leaving a fixed term early: you get your principal back, but all rewards are forfeited, including those already paid.
On-chain staking has its own exit waits, which vary by network.
Myth 3: A Higher APR Always Means You Earn More
A higher staking APR does not always mean a better result. APRs are estimates and can change at any time. Price moves usually matter far more than the rate.
Many networks pay staking rewards by creating new coins. That adds to supply. If you do not stake, your share of the network shrinks. Part of a high APR may simply offset this dilution.
Compare APRs, but weigh the coin's price risk first.
Myth 4: Earning Interest on USDT Is Also Staking
On WEEX, USDT interest comes from WEEX Auto Earn, a separate product.
As of October 8, 2026, WEEX Auto Earn pays 10% APR on the first 200 USDT and 3.5% APR from 200 to 500,000 USDT. Unlike staking, your USDT stays in your trading accounts and can still be used as margin. See the Auto Earn guide for which balances count.

FAQ
- Can you lose money staking crypto?Yes. Staking rewards are paid in crypto, so a falling coin price can outweigh the rewards. Staking does not protect your principal.
- Can I unstake anytime on WEEX?Flexible WEEX Staking can be redeemed anytime. Fixed-term WEEX Staking releases coins at maturity, and early redemption forfeits all rewards.
- Is WEEX Auto Earn a type of staking? No. WEEX Auto Earn pays interest on USDT held in your accounts. WEEX Staking pays rewards on coins you subscribe.
