AEON Introduces AI Payment to 3 Million Shopify Stores
The AI payment protocol AEON has unveiled its 'Agentic Checkout' feature. This feature allows AI agents to handle product searches and payments through natural language conversations, while actual payments are processed using a dedicated virtual card with a pre-set limit. AEON announced this feature on the 4th. Payments are processed by the 'AEON AI Card', which allows users to set spending limits and approval ranges, enabling the AI agent to complete transactions without directly accessing the user's primary wallet or card. Agentic Checkout currently supports 3 million stores on Shopify and over 1 billion products. AEON plans to expand its support to include Claude, an open-source e-commerce agent, as well as Amazon and Travala. The rise of services where AI agents handle payments has been notable recently, with Coinbase and Mastercard also introducing similar features. AEON's expansion demonstrates that the commerce structure where AI agents act as payment entities is growing among major platforms.
