Circle to Withdraw USDC Support on Noble and Shut Down CCTP V1
Circle will withdraw USDC support on Noble and pause CCTP V1 before December, leaving a significant part of the Cosmos ecosystem needing to find alternative routes for cross-chain transfers.
- CCTP V1 burn limits will begin to decrease on October 31, 2026, and contracts will be paused on December 1.
- Noble, Aptos, and Sui will not receive the update to CCTP V2, which Circle is deploying on other networks.
- Circle and Cosmos teams are exploring a temporary routing solution to maintain the flow of USDC through alternative channels.
Circle will withdraw USDC support on the Noble blockchain and proceed with the closure of its legacy Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol V1, a decision that impacts the primary conduit of the stablecoin within the Cosmos ecosystem. The timeline announced on September 10, 2026, outlines a gradual reduction of burn limits starting October 31 and a complete pause of contracts on December 1, while Noble will be excluded from the update to CCTP V2.
A Countdown for the Cosmos Ecosystem
CCTP allows USDC to be moved between networks by burning the asset on one chain and issuing it on another, rather than relying on a traditional wrapped token. For Cosmos, the importance of Noble is not limited to a single blockchain, as the platform has served as a native issuance point and has enabled the stablecoin to circulate through the Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol, known as IBC.
Noble has played this role since late 2023, when it became a connection piece for numerous chains linked to Cosmos. Through this infrastructure, users and protocols could access USDC and transfer it between different environments of the ecosystem, a function particularly relevant for decentralized finance applications operating across chains.
The withdrawal does not mean that USDC will immediately disappear from wallets or services related to Noble. Circle indicated that the asset will remain accessible through Circle Mint and popular wallets in the Cosmos environment, including Keplr and Cosmostation, although the ability to transfer it across chains using CCTP V1 will deteriorate during the transition.
The potential impact is greater for Noble than for an independent network, precisely because its issuance function served a broad set of connected chains. The planned pause on December 1 sets a deadline for protocols integrating USDC to review their liquidity routes, deposit and withdrawal mechanisms, and operational dependencies within Cosmos.
What Will Change with the Closure of CCTP V1
Circle structured the process in two phases to provide users with approximately three months of adaptation. The first phase will begin on October 31, 2026, when the burn limits of CCTP V1 contracts start to decrease, gradually limiting the capacity to process transfers through the protocol.
The second phase will arrive on December 1, 2026, when CCTP V1 contracts will be completely paused. From that moment on, applications relying on those contracts will not have the same route to move USDC between networks, so they will need to use alternative routes or adjust their operations to the new conditions.
The decrease in limits introduces a gradual transition but does not eliminate the need for immediate planning. Teams managing markets, bridges, lending platforms, or decentralized exchanges will need to identify how they receive USDC, on which chain they hold it, and what mechanism they will use to transfer it when CCTP V1 ceases to function.
The signal that the process had already begun appeared before Circle's announcement, when Coinbase halted USDC deposits and withdrawals on the Noble network on August 17, 2026. This move indicated that some key players were already distancing themselves from the chain, although Circle's official timeline now more precisely sets the scope and deadlines for the transition.
Noble, Aptos, and Sui Excluded from CCTP V2
The closure of CCTP V1 is part of Circle's migration to CCTP V2, a version designed to enhance the speed, reliability, and interoperability of cross-chain transfers. Most of the major networks supported by Circle are receiving the upgrade, but Noble, Aptos, and Sui remain exclusively tied to the previous standard.
This situation leaves the three networks without access to the enhanced capabilities that Circle attributes to CCTP V2. Although they share the same technical limitation, the consequences may differ depending on the number of protocols, users, and stablecoin flows relying on each network, with Noble facing broader repercussions due to its role within a multichain architecture.
In the case of Noble, the issue is not limited to the availability of USDC on a specific chain, but rather to its function as infrastructure for other Cosmos networks. The loss of native issuance and the transfer route supported by CCTP V1 could eliminate a significant convenience for DeFi protocols that utilized USDC distributed via IBC.
According to information published by Crypto Briefing, Circle is working with Noble and several teams from the Cosmos ecosystem on a provisional routing solution. This alternative could maintain USDC transactions through different routes, but the report does not establish that there is a direct upgrade to CCTP V2 for Noble, Aptos, or Sui.
The Response Cosmos Must Prepare
Cosmos teams will need to assess whether their products can continue to accept USDC from Noble after the contract pause or if they need to incorporate other sources and liquidity routes. The review will also need to consider deposits and withdrawals, as an application may maintain available balances while simultaneously losing the ability to move them to other networks.
For users, the transition period requires attention to the instructions of each protocol and wallet, especially when a transfer involves multiple chains connected via IBC. The availability of USDC in Circle Mint, Keplr, and Cosmostation offers continuity of access but does not guarantee that all cross-chain routes will retain their same conditions.
Circle's decision also highlights the dependency that can arise from centralized infrastructure within a multichain ecosystem. Noble facilitated access to a widely used stablecoin, but the closure of CCTP V1 demonstrates that changes in the issuer's products can impact numerous applications that do not directly control the evolution of the protocol.
Thus, December 1 will be the benchmark date to measure the readiness of each project. Until then, transfers via CCTP V1 will gradually degrade, while Circle, Noble, and other teams seek a provisional route to avoid a more severe disruption of USDC flow in Cosmos.
