Company President Arrested for Money Laundering via Cryptocurrencies
Japanese police have arrested six individuals, including the president of a company involved in temporary staffing, on suspicion of money laundering through cryptocurrencies. The police have been analyzing suspicious transactions since February 2024, which may have originated from investment fraud. Investigators found that the company was the first destination for the stolen funds, which were then converted into cryptocurrencies. The total value of the laundered funds is estimated at around 91 million yen, resulting in a commission of approximately 1 million yen (22,500 zlotys) for the company. The arrests took place last week, and all six have been charged with violating the Organized Crime Law. The police are investigating two threads: money laundering and the fraud from which the funds originated, with over 30 potential victims. Japanese authorities warn that cryptocurrencies are becoming an increasing problem, with 9,523 cases of investment fraud reported through social media in 2025.
