ConsenSys Announces Plan to Separate MetaMask and Institutional Business
ConsenSys plans to separate its consumer business centered around MetaMask and its Ethereum protocol and institutional infrastructure business into two independent companies. The separation is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The existing company will transition into a consumer finance entity focused on MetaMask, while the protocol group and institutional infrastructure business will move to a newly established entity named 'ConsenSys'. The new ConsenSys will include Linea, the Ethereum execution client Besu, and the consensus client Teku. ConsenSys aims to provide tokenization, stablecoin, and programmable payment-related infrastructure to banks, asset managers, and payment providers. MetaMask will focus on the consumer platform, while the new ConsenSys will handle institutional blockchain infrastructure and Ethereum-related software. Linea is a Layer 2 network based on zkEVM that is compatible with Ethereum, launched on July 11, 2023. Sharplink Gaming announced a plan to deploy $200 million in Ethereum to Linea by October 2025, with funds linked to the staking structures of ether.fi and Eigencloud. Contract details are included in SEC filings. This restructuring includes deploying Linea to the institutional Ethereum infrastructure business.

The Bitcoin price briefly fell below $81,000 on October 9, 2026, its lowest level in nearly three weeks, after repeated failures near $87,000. A bond selloff, weaker tech stocks, spot ETF outflows and a long liquidation wave all added pressure. The $80,000 area is now the key support, while $83,000 is the first level bulls need to reclaim.
