Democrats Favored to Win US Midterms, Bitcoin May React Less Than Expected
Democrats are favored to win the US midterms on November 3, with prediction market Polymarket giving them 61% odds of securing both chambers as of September 28. The Senate's role is crucial, having recently blocked the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, which would determine regulatory oversight of tokens. Bitcoin's price has shown resilience following the Federal Reserve's rate hike to a 3.75%-4% range on September 16, indicating that monetary policy may be a more significant influence on Bitcoin than legislative actions. With 16 of 18 Fed officials anticipating another rate increase this year, tighter conditions could challenge Bitcoin's rally. If Bitcoin maintains its gains, it suggests that investors are looking beyond higher rates; if it declines, the Fed's influence may prevail. The Senate's leadership, particularly with Senator Elizabeth Warren opposing the CLARITY Act, could impact future regulatory developments. Meanwhile, the crypto sector is mobilizing, with Fairshake launching a $30 million ad campaign targeting Senator Sherrod Brown's re-election bid. Ultimately, the impact of a Democratic Senate on Bitcoin remains uncertain, as traders may view it as either a threat or a known factor.
