Digital Ruble May Become Popular Thanks to Bonuses and Cashback
The digital ruble will become more attractive to Russians with financial incentives such as discounts and cashback. Financial analyst Vladimir Zernov noted that the Bank of Russia should think ahead about how to motivate citizens to use digital currency in everyday transactions. The emergence of a new payment instrument may not be sufficient to replace bank cards or the Fast Payment System. Zernov cited China as an example, where the promotion of the digital yuan occurred through the expansion of payment locations and the distribution of digital yuan and coupons. He believes that for Russia, it is important to first ensure the ability to pay with digital rubles, and then offer real reasons for their choice. Offline payments could be a plus, but the widespread use of digital currency requires a broad acceptance network and economic benefits for users. The Bank of Russia plans to introduce the possibility of cashing out digital rubles by 2027, and transactions for individuals will remain free indefinitely, while for businesses, they will be free until the end of 2026.
