Galaxy: Polymarket 69.2% Retail Accounts at a Loss
Galaxy Research has released a report titled "The Behavior of Polymarket Traders," analyzing approximately 2.9 million retail accounts. Since its launch in 2020, the Polymarket platform has facilitated 1.27 billion orders, involving 3.07 million wallets, with a nominal amount of $82.8 billion. The report indicates that 69.2% of retail accounts are below the breakeven point, with total losses amounting to $338.9 million. The median loss for retail accounts is about $3, with losses ranging from -$36.64 to +$0.40. The proportion of accounts that have not traded again within 30 days after incurring losses is 15.2%, compared to 6.1% after making a profit. Excluded automated accounts have collectively made a profit of $246.8 million, with the median position for winners at $13.96 and for losers at $10. 44.1% of traders concentrate over 60% of their activity on a single topic, with sports specialists having the lowest profit rate at only 25.1%. Technology and science specialists have a profit rate of 41.2%. The report also mentions that the platform plans to introduce taker fees in early 2026, where at a price point of 50 cents, a taker pays $1.75 for a position of 100 shares or $50, which accounts for approximately 3.5% of the invested capital.
