Pentagon Signs $58.6 Billion Contract with Lockheed Martin for Patriot Missile Production
The U.S. Army has signed a contract with Lockheed Martin worth up to $58.6 billion for the production of interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems. This agreement replaces a previous annual contract worth $4.7 billion and covers the period from fiscal years 2026 to 2032. Lockheed Martin is committed to tripling the production of PAC-3 MSE interceptors by the end of 2030, with a production plan of up to 2,000 PAC-3 missiles annually. The number of jobs at the Camden plant will increase by 50% to approximately 1,850 employees. The company is expected to invest between $8 billion and $9 billion in upgrading more than 20 facilities in the U.S. by 2030. The PAC-3 MSE interceptor is designed to destroy ballistic and cruise missiles. The contract aligns with the Trump administration's requirements, which emphasize the priority of expanding production capacity. According to CSIS estimates, the U.S. has fewer than 1,000 Patriot interceptors. The Pentagon has also signed a similar agreement with RTX to increase the production of Tomahawk cruise missiles.
