Two men arrested for fraud with fake EURC
In the Netherlands, two men are suspected of defrauding Rolex watch sellers using fake EURC, tokens mimicking Circle's euro stablecoin. The victims believed they were receiving valid cryptocurrency payments but discovered that the assets were worthless. Police arrested a 24-year-old man from Geleen and another 45-year-old from Leiden. They allegedly used this method repeatedly on Marktplaats, the main Dutch classifieds platform. Buyers offered to pay in EURC and sent counterfeit tokens that appeared valid. A seller in Almelo handed over his Rolex after receiving the tokens, only realizing the fraud when attempting to convert the assets into euros. The first complaints date back to August of last year, and the case was mentioned on the show Plaats Delict, leading to the identification of the suspects. A search at the Geleen suspect's home revealed firearms and drugs, resulting in his detention for 14 days. The other suspect was released but remains under investigation. Authorities are examining the seized data to determine any potential other scams. It is advised to only accept known payment methods and to be wary of unusual payment methods.

The Bitcoin price briefly fell below $81,000 on October 9, 2026, its lowest level in nearly three weeks, after repeated failures near $87,000. A bond selloff, weaker tech stocks, spot ETF outflows and a long liquidation wave all added pressure. The $80,000 area is now the key support, while $83,000 is the first level bulls need to reclaim.
