UK FCA Secures Order to Seize £850,000 in Compensation for Cryptocurrency Fraud Victims
UK FCA Secures Seizure Order for Compensation to Cryptocurrency Fraud Victims
The UK FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) has successfully obtained a seizure order exceeding £850,000 (approximately ¥176 million) to provide financial compensation to victims of a large-scale cryptocurrency investment fraud case, which involved around £1.5 million (approximately ¥300 million).
This law enforcement action targeted Raymondip Bedi and Patrick Mavanga, who operated illegal cryptocurrency investment schemes through organizations claiming to be CCX Capital and Astaria Group.
On September 28, 2026, the Southwark Crown Court issued strict seizure orders against the defendants. Specifically, Bedi was ordered to pay £603,404.28 (approximately ¥125 million), while Mavanga was required to pay £247,997.99 (approximately ¥51.55 million).
These individuals have been granted a three-month grace period to comply with the order. If they fail to make the payments within the deadline, additional prison sentences may be imposed, but this will not eliminate their obligation to return the funds.
Methods of Deception Using Cold Calling
A unique aspect of this case lies in the approach taken to target victims, as the perpetrators persistently targeted general consumers using cold calls (unsolicited phone solicitations). They offered nonexistent or unprofitable fictitious cryptocurrency investment opportunities and skillfully persuaded victims to invest.
According to the FCA's official investigation report, these fraudulent activities were carried out between February 2017 and June 2019. It has been revealed that at least 65 investors were affected by this scam scheme, with confirmed total losses amounting to £1,541,799 (approximately ¥320 million).
The Fate of Recovered Funds and the Reality of Victim Relief
The total seizure order of £851,402 issued by the court, even if fully recovered, would only cover about 55% of the total losses suffered by all victims.
The FCA has already begun identifying affected individuals and contacting them directly, indicating a plan to fairly distribute and return the funds recovered through the seizure process. However, at this point, the issuance of this order does not mean that investors will immediately regain their funds. There has been no clear announcement regarding the specific schedule for how much money each individual will receive or when the distribution process will begin.
The focus will now be on whether the regulatory authorities can successfully recover the funds and complete the complex compensation procedures.
Lessons and Self-Defense Strategies in Cryptocurrency Investment
This incident highlights the significant risks associated with cryptocurrency-related activities conducted by unlicensed operators, prompting regulatory authorities, including the FCA, to repeatedly issue strong warnings about investment opportunities offered by companies that lack proper registration or authorization in the UK market.
There are persistent malicious tactics that mislead investors by promising unrealistically high returns or presenting fake trading platforms that lack transparency. Regardless of how attractive an investment opportunity may seem, it is essential to verify whether the company is a legitimate organization with proper authorization by checking the official registration records of regulatory authorities before investing any significant funds.
While the FCA's recovery of funds may provide some relief to victims, it is crucial to acknowledge the reality that there is no guarantee that all lost assets will be fully returned. Investors must exercise extreme caution when engaging with cryptocurrency investment opportunities.
