U.S. Bancorp Completes Cross-Border Payment Test with USBDC Stablecoin
U.S. Bancorp has completed a cross-border payment test using its own USD stablecoin, USBDC, with transactions conducted via the Stellar blockchain between institutions in North America and Europe. The pilot tested the minting, redemption, freezing, and recovery functions of USBDC, and validated the bank's internally developed digital asset platform that connects the blockchain network with its finance, compliance, risk management, and operations systems. The bank previously announced in November 2025 its collaboration with the Stellar Development Foundation to explore the issuance of customized stablecoins, and is investigating the application of USBDC in scenarios such as cross-border fund management, liquidity management, and collateral transfer, but has not disclosed a specific timeline for customer availability.
