Burnham Calls for Global AI Regulatory Standards in UN Speech
In a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham emphasized the need for global regulatory standards in light of the rapid development of artificial intelligence. He pointed out that world leaders must recognize the potential risks of AI, stating, "The fundamental decisions around this technology are too important to leave to chance." Burnham noted that while AI has immense potential, it could also "disrupt our ways of living and working, amplifying various risks." He mentioned that the UK will advocate for countries to adopt rules related to AI model transparency and access, hoping that tech companies will adhere to these regulations. This viewpoint may contradict that of U.S. President Trump, who stated on the same day that the U.S. "completely rejects any attempts to create a global framework to regulate artificial intelligence."
