Pandemic-era whale awakens after years of dormancy. Transferred a whopping $378 million!
A wallet that had been dormant for over four years transferred approximately 4,582 Bitcoins worth a total of $377.6 million to five new addresses.
Four of the mentioned receiving wallets received 1,000 Bitcoins each, while the fifth received about 582 Bitcoins. None of the identified recipients have made any further transfers of the acquired funds so far.
The history of the wallet dates back to March 3, 2020, when the coins accumulated in it were sent to an address from another wallet at a time when their total value was just $40.8 million. Just nine days after this transaction, financial markets around the world were shaken by panic related to the outbreak of the pandemic, causing the price of Bitcoin to plummet by over 40%, marking a local bottom below the $4,000 level. However, the owner of these funds did not succumb to market panic and kept a cool head, weathering the worst market crash without selling off their assets.
By the time of Monday's transaction, the value of the accumulated assets had increased nearly ninefold, reaching a staggering amount measured in hundreds of millions of dollars. It is also worth noting that for over four years, the owner of the digital assets made no outgoing moves, and the first test transfer of a small amount of 0.009 Bitcoins took place only in August 2024, while the rest of the funds immediately returned to the same original address.
Awakening the Giant
The transfer of such a massive number of coins immediately triggered a wave of speculation among analysts examining data flows directly on the blockchain. They point to a clear correlation between the activation of historically dormant wallets and the subsequent spike in volatility across the entire cryptocurrency market. Large transfers from long-unused wallets are typically interpreted by investors as a clear signal that the asset owner is preparing to sell. On the other hand, experts remind us that such actions may merely be the result of routine security procedures, which include internal allocation of funds between new wallets controlled by the same person or entity.
The exact purpose of the recent transaction remains unknown, but in the past, sudden spikes in certain network indicators have often served as leading signals heralding the onset of a deeper price correction. Similar events can have a huge impact on overall sentiment, especially since the market is still fresh with the case of wallets linked to the U.S. government, which recently transferred Bitcoin worth at least $1.5 billion. In that case, there was also no complete clarity on whether the transactions were aimed at a potential sell-off on exchanges or merely internal organizational reshuffling.
Mysterious Capital Movements
The activity of addresses belonging to whales always draws the attention of retail investors, for whom sudden movements of million-dollar amounts represent an important market indicator. The transfer of 4,582 Bitcoins at the current valuation exceeding $377 million after years of total inactivity raises legitimate questions about the sustainability of the bull market. Holders who survived such drastic upheavals as the crash of March 2020 are regarded in the community as so-called diamond hands, or investors with extraordinarily strong nerves and a long-term horizon. Any decision they make regarding a potential exit from the investment or realizing a substantial profit could have a cooling effect on the entire market. Dividing the total amount into five smaller transactions fits standard risk management practices and enhances privacy when operating such a massive capital. It remains to be seen whether the new receiving wallets will make deposits on cryptocurrency exchanges in the coming days, which would confirm the black scenario related to selling, or whether the coins will remain dormant for the next few years.

STRK price briefly broke above $0.12 on October 12, 2026, while PLUME, LUMIA and other Layer 2 tokens also rose. Only STRK has a clear catalyst, and the total crypto market barely moved. The evidence points to a one-token squeeze that lifted its neighbors, not a confirmed sector rotation.
