Artificial Intelligence Limits $190 Billion Risk in XRP and ZEC Networks
In the realm of cryptocurrency security, one of the standout developments in 2026 has been the emergence of AI-powered systems that uncover critical vulnerabilities that have long gone unnoticed. Coin Bureau announced that three separate security issues identified on the XRP Ledger and Zcash could potentially affect assets totaling approximately $190 billion.
Long-Standing Vulnerability in XRP Ledger
One of the most striking findings was revealed by Veria Labs. The company's Veria AI system detected an integer overflow error in the payment engine of the XRP Ledger that has existed since 2015. This vulnerability could allow for the creation of 18.45 trillion XRP in a single transaction. This amount is equivalent to 184 times the total supply of 100 billion XRP.
Veria Labs stated that the attack could be replicated, and each time, 18.45 trillion XRP could be generated. At the time the vulnerability was discovered, the market value of XRP was approximately $94 billion. The XRP Ledger Foundation confirmed that there were no unauthorized tokens created. The organization is known as a non-profit entity that supports the development of the XRP Ledger network.
Coin Bureau reported that AI has limited a risk exceeding $190 billion by preventing potential exploits on the XRP and ZEC networks.
The Veria Labs team received a maximum bug bounty of $250,000 for this discovery. This development indicates that AI-based analyses are becoming increasingly important alongside traditional code audits.
Second XRPL Issue in Signature Verification Process
Earlier in 2026, Cantina AI's autonomous bug scanning tool, Apex, found a critical logic error in the proposed Batch change for the XRP Ledger. The issue was in the signature verification process. Due to this vulnerability, attackers could have created bulk transactions that would allow them to transfer assets from victim accounts without accessing private keys.
Hari Mulackal, CEO of Cantina and Spearbit, stated that this security flaw directly put approximately $80 billion in assets at risk. Validators did not accept the proposed change, and an emergency patch was subsequently deployed.
Hari Mulackal mentioned that the identified vulnerability raised a direct risk of approximately $80 billion.
Unlimited Fake ZEC Risk on Zcash Side
On May 29, security researcher Taylor Hornby, using a special analysis toolkit in conjunction with Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.8 model, audited Zcash's Orchard protected pool. Hornby found a vulnerability in this structure, which was deployed in May 2022, allowing attackers to produce unlimited and hard-to-detect fake ZEC.
Orchard refers to the protected pool structure used to enhance privacy in Zcash transactions.
Mini glossary: Orchard is a protected transaction pool that supports private transactions on the Zcash network. Zero-knowledge proof is a cryptographic method that allows for the verification of information without revealing its content.
The zero-knowledge proof system was in a position to mistakenly accept erroneous transactions as legitimate. After Hornby reported the vulnerability, a patch was released on June 2. Following the disclosure of the vulnerability, the price of ZEC dropped sharply, but no verified exploit was recorded.

AI Usage Expands to Network Transactions
While these security developments unfold, the use of AI-focused infrastructure is also expanding within the XRP ecosystem. The x402 protocol allows AI agents to make automatic payments for API and computing services. The XRP Ledger has processed over 10 million payments through x402. This threshold was reached less than three months after surpassing the 1 million payment level.
Ripple joined the x402 Foundation as a Premier Member alongside Visa, Mastercard, Google, and Stripe. Now, 25% of the transactions on the network are generated by AI processes. On the XRPL AI Hub, 160 vendors and 2,276 live services are listed.
