Bitcoin Joins Robinhood's Balance Sheet with a $25 Million Purchase
Bitcoin enters Robinhood's treasury. The platform has added $25 million in BTC to its balance sheet, according to Johann Kerbrat, its head of crypto and international operations. The executive announced this purchase on October 7 during an interview with The Block on the show The Starting Block.
The operation aims to showcase Robinhood's commitment to Bitcoin and its ecosystem. It accompanies a broader expansion into derivatives and tokenized assets, while remaining modest in scale for the group.

Robinhood Buys Bitcoin for Its Own Account
Robinhood has long allowed its users to trade cryptocurrencies. However, this announcement concerns the company's own holdings, not the assets it holds for its clients.
According to statements reported by The Block, Johann Kerbrat explains that the purchase is meant to bring the group's strategy closer to the crypto community. The executive also emphasizes its limited nature: with a market capitalization close to $100 billion, an investment of $25 million should not significantly alter Robinhood's trajectory.
The amount represents about 0.025% of that market cap. This comparison provides a scale without informing about the portion of cash mobilized. The announcement does not specify the exact number of bitcoins acquired, the average purchase price, or the execution date.
The distinction with client assets is essential. Billions of dollars in cryptocurrencies can be associated with a platform's wallets without constituting its own assets. Address data alone is therefore insufficient to establish a corporate investment strategy.
At this stage, Johann Kerbrat describes a symbolic and financial commitment to Bitcoin. No recurring accumulation program comparable to those of companies specializing in BTC treasury management has been announced. Perpetuals and Tokenization Extend the Crypto Offensive
This purchase comes as Robinhood expands its offering. On September 29, the company announced perpetual futures for eligible U.S. users. These products, with no expiration, will allow for long or short positions on eight cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, and XRP. The announced leverage reaches 10 times on BTC and ETH, compared to three times on the other six assets.
The group is also developing Robinhood Chain, a layer 2 network compatible with Ethereum, built with Arbitrum technology. It is designed to host financial services and tokenized assets, including Stock Tokens linked to stocks. Their availability depends on jurisdictions; Robinhood specifies that they are not offered to U.S. users.
According to The Block, the total value locked on the network reached about $1.05 billion on Tuesday. Johann Kerbrat also mentions around 28 million funded accounts, an important distribution channel for these new services.
The investment in Bitcoin thus adds direct exposure to a strategy that has so far been primarily focused on products for clients. Its scale remains measured; upcoming announcements will reveal whether it remains a one-off or opens a more sustainable treasury policy.
