U.S. AI Task Force Prioritizes Technological Change
Donald Trump's "Super Intelligence" task force has stated that it will focus on monitoring technological changes and risks rather than rushing to regulate artificial intelligence (AI). In an interview on the 5th, Scott Cooper, co-chair of the task force and director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), said, "I do not want to release outdated policies after two years of work." Cooper emphasized that winning the AI competition is the goal, but he will not ignore the risks associated with the technology. He stated, "We need to demonstrate the benefits that AI can bring and take concerns and anxieties seriously." He also expressed a commitment to listening to the differences of opinion between the government and the AI industry. In response to criticism that the Trump administration does not want to regulate AI, Cooper pointed out that creating a regulatory framework based on fixed knowledge could lead to side effects. The task force is likely to hold its first meeting this week and plans to hire 1,000 tech talents for the government by the end of the year.
