Fidelity Executive Says Institutions Have No Turning Back on Tokenization
Fidelity's Head of Digital Asset Strategy, Matthew Horne, stated at the Longitude conference in Singapore that institutions have been pushing assets towards a blockchain future for the past 18 months, and "there is indeed no turning back." He pointed out that tokenization brings structural advantages to financial institutions, helping asset management companies reach new markets, especially as U.S. asset managers are motivated to move assets on-chain. UBS's Head of Digital Asset Development, Ka Yan Chan, mentioned that government bonds and stocks, as core assets in investment portfolios, could bring billions of dollars on-chain. She believes that market infrastructure participants like the Federal Reserve or DTCC will lead the way in transforming custody layers into tokenized platforms, pushing the scale from billions to trillions. Data shows that demand for tokenized assets has risen by 41% in the past 30 days, with the number of holders surpassing 493,000. In December 2025, the SEC issued a "no-action" letter to a DTCC subsidiary, allowing it to provide new tokenization services for the securities market; in September, the SEC approved a temporary exemption allowing tokenized U.S. stocks to be traded on specific blockchain venues. Over $1.2 billion has been moved on-chain in the past 30 days, with the total of stablecoins and tokenized assets exceeding $323 billion. Geoff Kendrick, Global Head of Digital Assets Research at Standard Chartered, predicted in August that tokenized real-world assets could reach $4 trillion by the end of 2028.
